90–93°F
Air temperature alone understates it — pair it with Gulf humidity and the heat index regularly climbs into the triple digits by early afternoon.
Likely, briefly
July on the Gulf Coast brings a real chance of pop-up thunderstorms, most common from early to mid-afternoon — right around show time. They tend to be fast-moving.
Very High
Little natural shade on the beach. Sunburn can happen within 15–20 minutes of unprotected exposure at midday.
Pack List
What to bring to the beach
| Item | Why |
|---|---|
| Reef-safe sunscreen, SPF 30+ | Reapply every two hours — you'll be on open sand for several hours. |
| Wide-brim hat & sunglasses | The show runs through peak UV hours. |
| Water, more than you think | Heat and humidity increase dehydration risk; bring a refillable bottle. |
| Beach umbrella or canopy | Shade is scarce on Casino Beach; check current SRIA rules on canopy size and stake type before setup. |
| Light rain layer | Afternoon storms can arrive fast and pass just as quickly. |
| Cash or card for the trolley | Free SRIA/ECAT service runs on show days — see the traffic guide. |
Safety
Heat and lightning basics
Beat the heat
Take shade breaks, hydrate before you feel thirsty, and watch kids and older family members for heat exhaustion signs — heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, or headache. Move to shade and cool water immediately if symptoms appear.
If thunder rolls in
Flight operations pause for lightning within range of the show box, and the schedule shown on this site will run late or shift. If you hear thunder, get off the open beach — a vehicle or solid building is safer than a beach umbrella.
