The Air Show with Kids

The Blue Angels are a thrill for children. These tips cover noise, heat, crowds and quieter ways to see the jets.

Is It Kid-Friendly?

Yes, with a plan

Free, close-up and thrilling, but loud and hot

The show is free to watch from the beach and kids love the jets. The challenges are noise, heat, crowds and long waits, so a little planning makes the day better for everyone.

Family Tips

How to make the day work with children

Hearing

Ear protection

Jets are very loud when they pass overhead. Bring ear protection sized for each child, and for babies and toddlers consider a spot farther back or a quieter practice day.

Heat

Shade, water and sunscreen

Bring a tent or umbrella, plenty of water and reapply sunscreen often. Plan to take breaks, and watch for signs of heat illness.

Safety

Pick a meeting spot

Choose a landmark to meet at if you are separated, and write your phone number on your child's wrist or put it in a pocket. Lifeguard first-aid stations have been available in past years.

Water

No swimming during the show

Water access closes during the civilian acts and the Blue Angels performance. Plan sand activities and check beach flags the rest of the day.

Timing

Arrive early, leave smart

Early arrival gets you a spot and shorter walks, but it makes for a long day. Bring snacks and activities, and be ready to board the first trolley after the show.

Strollers

Wheels and sand

Bring a stroller or wagon with wide wheels for sand. Expect crowds on trolley and sidewalks.

Easier Options

Quieter ways to see the Blue Angels

Thursday

Show-week practice

In recent years there has been a full practice show on the Thursday of show week. The crowds are smaller, so it is easier with young children.

Weekdays

Practice at Fort Pickens

On most Tuesday and Wednesday mornings the team practices at NAS Pensacola. Fort Pickens offers free viewing with historic grounds to explore. See the practice schedule.

From home

Livestream

A livestream has been provided in past years for those who can't make the trip. Details.
